Worker Policy


Ent worker

You will work with the Ents Officers, Logistics Officer and technicians to help ensure that our attractions and performances/acts run smoothly. Your job may include supervising an attraction, helping with changeovers between different acts, and assisting our performers with their needs (e.g. showing them to the right stage). Having some technical background will help but is by no means required. If you’re lucky, you may bump into some of our headliners!

Bar worker

Your work will involve serving our drinks and keeping our guests hydrated (and merry). Previous hospitality work / bar experience would be helpful. You will also be working with the Drinks Officers to ensure that your stall is well stocked. If you enjoy working with guests and you’ve always wanted to learn to mix cocktails like a pro, then you will love this job!

Food worker

You will work alongside professional caterers to help keep our guests fed, as well as our Food Officers to ensure that your assigned food stalls are well stocked. Previous hospitality work / food-serving experience would be helpful. If you enjoy interacting with guests and have a passion for food, then this job will be suitable for you.

Steward

You will work at the entrances of the ball checking wristbands and monitoring and helping with queues in each court. You will be on stand-by to help with any incidents and will liaise with our Security Officer throughout the night to ensure the ball runs smoothly. You will also be trained in fire safety regulations to ensure the safety of the guests throughout the night. You will be positioned in various places across the ball observing for potential hazards and taking action if any problems occur.

General worker

You will have an important role on the night, primarily ensuring the maintenance of the aesthetic of the ball. There will be a range of responsibilities, as you may have to be on hand to assist other departments during busy periods. This is a great way to experience the ball whilst working, as you will be positioned to roam in specific courts. You may even catch some of the headline music acts!

Music Supervisor

You will be our stage manager for the night, ensuring all music performances run smoothly and working closely with our Music Officer to manage the playing of music across the whole ball in its various locations. You will also be supervising the Ents Workers assigned as runners for the musicians. Previous experience in this area is necessary, and an interview will also be required, as you will have a very important role on the night. As a supervisor, you will be needed to attend the fire-training session.

Drinks Supervisor

A key position; you will work closely with our Drinks Officer to ensure that all bars are well stocked, well manned and you will be in close communication with contracted companies to make sure they complete their agreed contract. Previous experience in this area is necessary, and an interview will also be required, as you will have a very important role on the night. As a supervisor, you will be needed to attend the fire-training session.

Food Supervisor

Similarly to the Drinks Supervisor position; you will work closely with the Food Officer to ensure that all food stalls are well stocked, well manned, coping under pressure during busy periods and you will be in communication with contracted companies. Apt logistical skills are required, as you will be working throughout the night to make the ball as efficient and successful as possible. Previous experience in this area is necessary, and an interview will also be required as you will have a very important role on the night. As a supervisor, you will be needed to attend the fire-training session.

General Worker Supervisor

You will be working closely with the Personnel Officer to ensure there is an efficient placement of workers in all areas, you will be on hand to rearrange workers to assist various departments during busy periods. You will also be in charge of the cleaning of the ball alongside the Personnel Officer, in communication with Girton cleaners to sort out any incidents. This is a critical role on the night and excellent logistical skills are essential. Previous experience in this area is necessary, and an interview will also be required as you will have a very important role on the night. As a supervisor, you will be needed to attend the fire-training session.

Security Supervisor

You will be working closely with our Security Officer to manage the placement of the stewards across the college. This role combines responsibilities of a security supervisor and a fire-safety supervisor and is therefore a critical role in the successful running of the ball. You will be the first port of call if any incidents regarding security or fire safety occur, and will be roaming the ball throughout the night. Previous experience in this area is necessary, and an interview will also be required as you will have a very important role on the night. As a supervisor, you will be needed to attend the fire-training session.

Payment Information

Workers: £8 per hour

Supervisors: £10 per hour

Any training sessions attended will also be remunerated in accordance with your payment bracket.
